We mourn the passing of our friend, mentor and partner, Melvin J. Buckman, on November 24, 2016. Mel was one of the founders of our firm, having joined Peter McCausland and Gordon Keen in 1983. Prior to joining our firm, Mel practiced with the U.S. Small Business Administration, General Electric Company, and a law firm in Philadelphia. Mel continued to practice with us until his retirement in 2005. We were very happy that he was able to attend our open-house event in October.
When Peter McCausland learned of Mel’s passing he wrote: “In addition to being a great lawyer, Mel was the adult supervision at McCausland Keen + Buckman in the early days of the firm. He was brilliant, but he was a gentle person.” All of us feel the same way and we were privileged to have known Mel. Sandy McAdoo noted: “I am sure that during his visit in October, some of us sought out Mel’s guidance on a quick question or two.”
Both individually and collectively, we are better people and better attorneys for having been associated with Mel. He will be deeply missed.
